Embora influente na recepção de Heidegger nos Estados Unidos da América, o trabalho de Dreyfus foi repetidas vezes criticado por desenvolver uma leitura distorcida e seletiva da fenomenologia de Heidegger. Nesse artigo, mostramos que, independentemente de seus desenvolvimentos posteriores em ciência cognitiva, sua crítica inicial à IA simbólica se apoia em duas teses que podem ser localizadas em Ser e Tempo, a saber, de que nosso senso de situação é pragmático-holístico, e intrinsecamente relevante. Após uma introdução geral, reconstruímos, numa primeira (...) seção, em linhas gerais o projeto da IA simbólica e o tom geral da crítica de Dreyfus; numa segunda seção, reconstruímos a crítica de Dreyfus a SAM, de R. Schank; na terceira seção, indicamos como as duas teses podem ser localizadas em Ser e Tempo; concluímos apontando questões pendentes. (shrink)

Although from a philosophical perspective, many reflections can be brought up about the theorizing process, in this essay, we aim to reflect on the importance of the alignment between ontology and epistemology. This is particularly relevant because deeper discussions about the philosophical roots that underlay the theorizing processes remain as a lack in organizational and management studies. To support our work, we adopted the epistemic-ontological alignment model as a conceptual tool and the Resource-Based View (RBV) and some of its questionings (...) as an example to carry out a reflection exercise about its epistemic-ontological alignment. RBV is a theory that plays a prominent role in management studies, especially in the strategy field. Nevertheless, discussions regarding RBV philosophical foundations are not common in the mainstream of strategic management. After our analysis, we advise that scholars care about the philosophical roots of their theoretical proposals to promote constructive dialogue in their research communities. This can avoid empty discussions and criticisms based on incongruous worldviews. Our reflections also suggest that future research should embrace the plurality of paradigms as a source of renewal and transcendence in the production of knowledge. A multi-paradigmatic movement towards more eclecticism in Administrative Science can help produce new and underexploited combinations of knowledge in the theorizing process. (shrink)

In this article, the right to health is discussed as a social right and an essential requisite in the construction and guarantee of human rights, more precisely human dignity, considering this right as a complex but effective process in the transformation of the social reality. In the first place, the activities of the public power and its difficulties to guarantee universal access to health are highlighted. This scenario ends up inhibiting the practice of the right to health and prevents users (...) from enjoying and using it. In that sense, this article challenges and explores some alternatives to solidify and put in practice the right to health in Brazil. Departing from the analysis of the Unified Health System and social participation in Brazil, this article discusses the judicialization of health in the country, highlighting the difficulties the State faces to equitably offer universal healthcare to society. This context offers an opportunity for reflection and a paradigm change, from the “judicialization of health” to the “judicialization of health policies.” Finally, the public health policies adopted by other countries are emphasized, in the attempt to construct the empowerment of human beings in the practice of their rights, particularly social participation and the discussion about the States’ responsibility to put their citizens’ right to health in practice. In conclusion, the political and collective construction of the right to health needs to be encouraged, distinguishing the legitimate interests of the different interlocutors involved. (shrink)

Pensamos que a Educação Física deve compreender melhor este ser humano que se movimenta e se reconstrói enquanto sujeito. Não basta apenas que faça as atividades práticas das aulas. É preciso que compreenda esta ação. A problemática que surge é: como o sujeito constrói conhecimento? Resumo: Este estudo objetiva analisar as perspectivas de futuros professores em relação às práticas pedagógicas necessárias para a inclusão de alunos com deficiência, assim como a possibilidade de construí-las no cotidiano escolar. Para participar da pesquisa, foram selecionadas dezesseis futuras professoras que estão cursando os últimos semestres do curso de Pedagogia e já atuam como estagiárias na Educação Básica. A pesquisa se fundamenta na abordagem qualitativa e utilizou as narrativas como instrumento da coleta de dados. A partir do processo de (...) análise textual discursiva, identificaram-se três dimensões, com base nas temáticas utilizadas nesse estudo: Educação Inclusiva; Práticas Pedagógicas Inclusivas; Experiência. Os resultados do estudo indicam as experiências das professoras como novas e significativas e que o elemento principal para a transformação da educação inclusiva passa pela necessidade de formação, estudos e trocas de experiências e de constante construção teórico-prática, que se faz mister no processo inclusivo. The perspectives of Inclusive Education in the Education course: narratives of beginning teachers Abstract: This study aims to analyze the perspectives of future teachers in relation to the pedagogical practices necessary for the inclusion of students with disabilities, as well as the possibility of building them in the school routine. In order to participate in the research, sixteen future teachers who are attending the last semesters of the Education course and already work as interns in Basic Education were selected. The research is based on a qualitative approach and it uses narratives as an instrument for data collection. From the discursive textual analysis process, three dimensions were identified, based on the themes used in this study: Inclusive Education; Inclusive Pedagogical Practices; Experience. The results of the study indicate the experiences of the teachers as new and significant, and that the main element for the transformation of inclusive education involves the need for training, studies and exchanges of experiences as well as constant theoretical-practical construction, which is essential in the inclusive process. Cellular identity and its response to external or internal signalling variations are encoded in a cell's genome as regulatory information. The genomic regions that specify this type of information are highly variable and degenerated in their sequence determinants, as it is becoming increasingly evident through the application of genome‐scale methods to study gene expression. Here, we speculate that the same scenario applies to the regulatory regions controlling where DNA replication starts in the metazoan genome. We propose that replication origins cannot (...) be defined as unique genomic features, but rather that DNA synthesis initiates opportunistically from accessible DNA sites, making cells highly robust and adaptable to environmental or developmental changes. Apresenta-se uma análise fílmica do videodocumentário Roda o Tererê com vistas a investigar se e como o filme dirigido pela cineasta brasileira Lilian Solá Santiago contribui para uma descolonização do olhar, da estética e da política das imagens. Interessa identificar até que ponto o videodocumentário tensiona o regime de visibilidade dominante na sociedade nacional problematizado por teóricos localizados fora do eixo cultural da Europa. Conclui-se que, ao inscrever-se enquanto cineasta, Lilian Santiago não transforma a sua câmera apenas em voz; transforma (...) o microfone em ouvido, e faz dele uma caixa de ressonância para que as pessoas ouçam e vejam aqueles que vem sendo historicamente apagados dos espaços do aparecer. The aim of this paper is to clarify the truth-functional interpretation of the logical connective of the material implication. The importance of such clarification lies in the fact that it allows avoiding the supposed paradoxes introduced by C. I. Lewis (1918). I argue that an adequate understanding of the history and purposes of logic is enough to dissolve them away. The defense is based on an exposition of propositional compositionalism. To compare, I also present Stalnaker’s (1968) alternative that seeks to (...) explain the implicit concept of conditionality of conditionals assertions. In order to reinforce my aim I expound the twelve different meanings of ‘implication’ stated by Corcoran (1993) in order to hold that a proper understanding of these meanings allows us to avoid ambiguities and confusions. Finally, I expect to show that despite the possible alternatives, compositionalism is still the best explanation for the truth-functionality account of logical connectives. (shrink)

The Catastrophe of the Ascetic Ideals from an Intercultural Perspective. Science, Asceticism and Nihilism in GM III 27. This article aims to clarify the meaning and strategic position of the parentheses on the development of philosophy in India in GM III 27. Nietzsche’s reference to the philosophical development in India reveals his intercultural considerations and helps clarify the relations between science and ascetic ideal as a moment of the historical-genealogical reconstitution of European nihilism. I argue that honest forms of atheism (...) and science contain the core of the ascetic ideal and that the critique of nihilism is therefore inevitably self-referential. Nietzsche’s intercultural view sheds new light on important current philosophical questions such as the scope of Giorgio Agamben’s homo-sacer-project and on the prospects of non-European philosophical perspectives. Modern slavery is a major topic of concern in international law and global governance, in civil society, and in academic debates. Yet, what does modern slavery mean, and can its highly different forms be covered in a single concept? This paper discusses these questions in three steps: First, it develops common definitions of modern slavery. Second, it discusses critical rejections of these definitions. The two camps that adhere to the definitions of modern slavery, and that reject them, respectively, face certain (...) limits. In a third step, the paper takes up with the limits and the strengths of both. It suggests that the limits of definitions of modern slavery can be overcome by critical approaches; and that the limits of critical approaches can be overcome by definitions of modern slavery. The key is their integration into a human rights frame. Ultimately, the paper proposes an approach to modern slavery that neither relies on a binary distinction between slavery and non-slavery, nor does it strive for the abolishment of the concept of modern slavery. Rather, the paper calls for a normatively and contextually embedded approach within the human rights frame. (shrink)

The article traces the evolution and crystallization of Buber’s philosophy of dialogue. It focuses on his consideration of the epistemological and ontological issues attendant to the principium individuationis, the subject of his doctoral dissertation of 1904. Culminating with the publication of Ich und Du in 1923, this process was punctuated by life experiences that led him to affirm rather than to seek to transcend the principium individuationis as the ontological ground of being manifest in the matrix of everyday life, which (...) we are beckoned to sanctify through I-Thou relations. Der vorliegende Band leistet eine philosophische Untersuchung des Begriffs Ethos bei Homer. Traditionell schenken die Homer-Interpreten der konkreten Bedeutung des Begriffs allein in Bezug auf die Tiere Aufmerksamkeit und sprechen nicht uber den Zusammenhang des Wortes mit den menschlichen Figuren im Text. Auch wird deren psychologische Dimension in der Regel nicht beachtet. Die Analyse ist ein Beitrag zu einer anderen Art von Interpretation des Begriffs Ethos, in der wichtige Perspektivierungen, wie sie z. B. in der Philosophie, der Handlungspsychologie oder der (...) Gleichnistheorie unternommen werden, Berucksichtigung finden. Eine vollstandige Erfassung des Begriffs wird nicht angestrebt, vielmehr wird versucht, eine neue Lesart des Begriffs ethos im Zusammenhang mit den menschlichen Figuren bei Homer zu eroffnen. Resumo: O objetivo deste artigo é demonstrar como a teoria da mente estendida, particularmente os argumentos de Andy Clark, pode explicar os processos mentais não como fenômenos restritivos ao cérebro e endossar sua conexão com o corpo e o ambiente. Dessa forma, inicialmente, reconstroem-se as principais perspectivas materialistas que limitaram o self ao crânio; em seguida, aponta-se como o caráter estendido da mente escapa aos seus limites naturais e se mistura “descaradamente” ao mundo. Argumenta-se que artefatos externos desempenham um papel (...) importante na orientação de ações, de modo que mudanças no ambiente podem causar mudanças no comportamento do agente cognitivo, configurando uma dependência constitutiva. Desse modo, a tese da mente estendida desafia tanto o funcionalismo tradicional quanto o externalismo, pois, por um lado, considera os processos cognitivos e os estados mentais como interações relevantes do indivíduo com o ambiente e, por outro, como comportamentos orientados pela intenção. Por meio da integração dos corpos biológicos com artefatos ou ferramentas, sustenta-se uma leitura que dissolve a clássica “lacuna explicativa” das ciências cognitivas. (shrink)

Review of Flores-Júnior, O. La vie facile. Une lecture du cynisme ancien, Paris, Librairie philosophique J. Vrin. (2021).

Resumo: Conhecer os deveres que temos em relação às gerações futuras é cada vez mais urgente, diante da degradação individual, social e ambiental que a humanidade enfrenta. O presente artigo pretende mostrar, de início, a complexidade filosófica dessa questão, indicando que, nos enunciados sobre o assunto, há três pressuposições filosoficamente problemáticas: 1) haverá gerações futuras; 2) nossas ações são contingentes; e 3) somos responsáveis por nossos impactos sobre as próximas gerações. Discutimos essas suposições, por meio das questões sobre a eternidade (...) do mundo, a existência da liberdade e o significado de dever, e abordamos, em seguida, as ideias convergentes de Hans Jonas e Ulrich Beck, as quais apontam que a singularidade do poder que a tecnologia conferiu ao ser humano requer agora um novo pensamento ético. Na conclusão, argumentamos que é preciso definir deveres em relação às gerações futuras e elencamos quais seriam, a nosso ver, os principais deles, levando em conta a ideia de incerteza, alcançada tanto por meio das discussões filosóficas apresentadas quanto a partir da nova conjuntura tecnocientífica de nosso tempo.: Debates on our duties to future generations are increasingly urgent if we consider the individual, social, and human degradation of the present day. This article points out the philosophical complexity that underlies these debates, first indicating that the following assumptions are present in every statement concerning our duties to future generations: 1) there will be future generations; 2) our actions are contingent; 3) we are responsible for the way our actions impact future generations. The first three sections discuss each of these assumptions by presenting the debates over the eternity of the world, the existence of freedom, and the idea of duty. In the following sections we present the convergent ideas of Hans Jonas and Ulrich Beck, so as to argue that as technology has given humankind an unprecedented power over the world, a new kind of ethical thought is required. Finally, taking into account the idea of incertitude that arises both from the philosophical issues discussed and from our current techno-scientific context, we conclude by arguing that we should formulate our duties regarding future generations and specify those that are our main obligations. Understanding cultural evolution is one of the most challenging and indispensable scientific tasks for the survival of humankind on our planet. This task demands, besides an adoption of theories and models from biological evolution, theories for culture-specific processes as well. Language evolution and language acquisition offer interesting objects of study in this respect. (Published Online November 9 2006).

Sustainability reporting and assurance of sustainability reports have been used by organizations in an attempt to provide accountability to their stakeholders. A better understanding of current practices is important to provide a base for comparative and trend analyses. This paper aims to consolidate and provide information on sustainability reporting, assurance of sustainability reports and types of assurance providers. Another aim of this paper is to provide a descriptive analysis of these practices for a global sample, comparing results with previous studies, (...) and suggesting opportunities for future research. To accomplish these objectives, a literature review was performed, an analysis of the organizations included in the Fortune Global 500 2010 was completed, and results were presented and consolidated by country. These results demonstrate that all organizations analysed provided some type of information in relation to their social or environmental performance in their official website. The percentage of organizations issuing a sustainability report has been increasing in the last few years. However, the percentage of organizations assuring their sustainability report has stagnated. Types of assurance engagements include those performed by accountants and non-accountants, and new practices have emerged, namely the “mixed approach” and the “stakeholder or specialist review”. The analysis also shows that the practices of issuing sustainability reports and having them assured have become a world-wide phenomenon, occurring in developed, and emerging economies around the world. This study examines the ethical dilemmas and difficulties encountered by Portuguese school psychologists. As part of a larger survey, participants were asked about ethical issues faced in daily practice and asked to describe ethical incidents. Of the 477 respondents, 274 reported 441 ethically troubling or challenging situations. Responses were coded into a six-category system based on the code of ethics of Portuguese psychologists. Most of the reported dilemmas concerned privacy and confidentiality principles. Results are discussed in light of relevant literature (...) and international findings. Pretendemos com esse artigo realizar uma investigação acerca do conceito de pós-humano, o que nos fará adentrar em duas correntes teóricas, o pós-humanismo e o transumanismo, que empregam o termo “pós-humano” de modo diverso. Também pretendemos esclarecer se o ciborgue é ou não um pós-humano.

Resumo: Tendo como foco principal o primeiro volume de Humano, demasiado humano, e em particular o primeiro capítulo desta obra, este texto visa, esquematicamente, a apontar o objetivo central da formulação do livro, que, ao nosso ver - e esta é a ideia aqui defendida - é de ordem política. Para tanto, num primeiro momento, procuramos expor o problema sócio-político em questão para Nietzsche, de forma que, num segundo, possamos esboçar a solução epistêmica, para, por fim, abordarmos as dificuldades dela (...) decorrentes.: Having as main focus the book Human, All Too Human I, and in particular the first chapter of this work, this text aims, schematically, to point out the central objective of the formulation of the book, which, in our view - and this is the idea defended here - is of a political nature. Therefore, in a first moment, we try to expose the socio-political problem seen by Nietzsche, so that, in a second, we can outline the epistemic solution, so that, finally, we can address the difficulties that arise from it. A circunscrição do tema do circuito da ipseidade em O Ser e o Nada pode esclarecer as inovações sartre a nas em relação ao estatuto da Metafísica, da Ontologia e da Fenomenologia. Apresentamos aqui algumas direções dessa tarefa assumida por Sartre, ao tratar da passagem da fenomenologia à ontologia, sobre tudo sua defesa da irredutibilidade do fenômeno do ser ao ser do fenômeno, que culmina na ontologia fenomenológica e que é o télos de O Ser e o Nada. A passagem (...) à metafísica pode ser bem delineada através da contraposição com a empresa bergsoniana, já que a metafísica aparece na reflexão de Sartre com uma função puramente reguladora, jamais constitutiva. The present study aims at supporting the argument that emotions, unlike a physicalistic interpretation, cannot be reduced to the conceptual elements used in the communication or exteriorization process. The subject is based on two hypotheses: the first is that the relation between the issuance of an emotive content (emotion) and a possible mental representation presents a linguistic nature. In general terms, this means that an emotion, or the psychological content associated with it is based on the plot of other concepts. (...) The second hypothesis is that it is not possible to refer to emotions without considering cognition from a semantic problem and, consequently, in the refusal of a realistic or anti-realistic posture in relation to the way the phenomena - internal and/or external to our consciousness - are referred. Thus, a conceptual model to understand emotions would be essential to settle the problem associated with ordinary language, realism, and the computational tendencies that comprehend the mental content in strictly syntactic terms. O artigo aponta que o estudioso das imagens alemão Aby Warburg (1866-1929) pode ter sido vítima de um mal provocado pelo envolvimento com suas coleções de fotos e recortes de jornais e revistas sobre a guerra: algo próximo do que é hoje conhecido como Síndrome de Estresse Pós-Traumático (PTSD, na sigla em inglês). As emoções concentradas em fotografias de cenas de guerra que ele colecionou e manipulou durante toda a Primeira Guerra Mundial (1914-18), teriam sido um fator importante para a (...) ocorrência de surtos psicóticos que o levaram a uma longa internação. Tal hipótese permitiria explicar o quadro de esgotamento emocional, com aceleração maníaca e exaltação do psiquismo, que acometeu Warburg logo após o final da guerra. Pretendemos, a partir desse exemplo clínico, levantar elementos para compreender o conceito central de seu pensamento sobre a força das imagens, o conceito de “fórmula de emoção” ou “fórmula de pathos”. O objetivo do artigo é analisar a interpretação de Heidegger sobre o eterno retorno de Nietzsche, colocando como questão central a problemática do tempo. Para Heidegger, o filósofo de Zaratustra continua sendo metafísico, mas nele se constitui também o acabamento da metafísica. O eterno retorno tem importância fundamental nesse fim da metafísica, pois pensando o instante como algo eterno, se suprime a metafísica por dentro. Nas preleções de Nietzsche I, a interpretação sobre o eterno retorno se interliga com esse fim (...) da metafísica e inversão do platonismo. Com isso, se revela uma concepção de tempo contrária à metafísica. Por outro lado, na década de 1950, em Quem é Zaratustra de Nietzsche? e a preleção O que significa pensar?, Heidegger aprofunda mais a interpretação do eterno retorno e de tempo, vendo na filosofia nietzschiana não só o acabamento da metafísica, mas também a possibilidade da passagem ao o poético. O profundo enraizamento de Vieira em sua época não o impediu de ser aberto ao diálogo com as diferentes categorias de pessoas e atento a tudo o que podia ajudar a compreender os acontecimentos de seu tempo. Para esse jesuíta do século XVII, pensar a vida humana implica muito mais que uma análise contextual da política, da economia, da vida social. Para António Vieira, a Palavra de Deus é a chave hermenêutica dessa reflexão. Ela denuncia os desvios, esclarece, ajusta, purifica (...) e orienta o olhar para o essencial do ser humano e de seu destino. Tentar segui-lo no itinerário que propõe exigirá de nós, talvez, recolocar algumas questões, pois para ele as interrogações formuladas pela fé podem ser feitas a qualquer pessoa e a qualquer domínio. Isso não se passa sem contínua confrontação nem sem problema, visto que ele "falava a um auditório para o qual o nobre era ontologicamente nobre; o clero, clero in aeternum; o vilão, vilão; o cristão, cristão; o judeu, judeu". Henri Meschonnic famously gives specific usage to a repertoire of terms such as subjectivity, continuous, rhythm, historicity, recitative and enunciation. Behind them, there is a project to overcome what he calls the “chain of dualisms” (1988), or the tendency toward dichotomy in theoretical thinking, represented in the language fields by the separations between signifier and signified, oral and written, form and content, and others. Following Philip Wilson’s (2012) initiative of applying Ludwig Wittgenstein’s concepts of language games and forms of life (...) to translation studies, we seek to draw an analogy between the Wittgensteinian leap from analytics to pragmatics and the Meschonnician leap from sign to discourse, with the aim of investigating the viability of a synthesis of the two authors’ ideas as a theoretical and methodological proposition for Translation Studies. Meschonnic proposes that the sign (enunciate) be overcome in favor of discourse (enunciation), which he views as a relationship between language and body. We argue that the linguistic experience, in that light, is akin to a performance and that Wittgenstein, by focusing on the use of language, also favors this idea, which may be a possible key for a theoretical practice of translation. Este artigo pretende analisar como a hipótese da mente estendida, por um lado, redesenha o conceito de processos cognitivos a partir de uma crítica ao paralelismo físico/mental e, por outro, se ampara em argumentos funcionalistas para considerar outros níveis do organismo e do ambiente. Para tanto, inicialmente, mostramos como a dicotomia físico/mental constrói uma imagem epistemologicamente confusa, especialmente quando se considera o argumento da causação mental. A tese de que os processos mentais interfiram nos fenômenos físicos, ou vice-versa, é um (...) legado da tradição cartesiana. Posteriormente, argumentamos que o conceito de mente estendida não explica adequadamente o uso dos artefatos, inferindo um prognóstico evolutivo na espécie humana. Por fim, identificamos alguns dilemas – epistemológicos e morais – entre os processos cognitivos e propostas da Inteligências Artificial. (shrink)

A história da linguagem adquire ao longo do Ensaio sobre a origem das línguas o andamento de uma queda acelerada na corrupção. Há uma língua primitiva que se degenera e se altera: um processo de formação e uma deformação. À medida que Rousseau identifica em suas reflexões – seja na origem seja na estrutura – música e linguagem, a perda de força expressiva que se verifica nas línguas acomete também a música e estas duas corrupções caminham juntas, de modo que (...) ambas se afastam da língua musicada ou da palavra cantada do início. A corrupção da música e das línguas corresponde ao apagamento de sua potência expressiva e refere-se a uma autonomização da harmonia artificial, ao aumento das consoantes, das articulações, da racionalidade, da prática da escrita, bem como ao desenvolvimento histórico, político, econômico e social. Todos estes processos devem ser levados em consideração numa análise sobre as línguas e a linguagem. Todavia, é possível isolar metodologicamente cada um deles. Dito isto, propomos neste artigo investigar o papel da escrita no processo de corrupção e degeneração das línguas. (shrink)

A exortação de Rousseau, feita dois séculos antes de Lévi-Strauss, de levar a vista ao longe, observar as diferenças entre os homens para conhecer o homem em sua especificidade e propriedade dá o tom do que se poderia chamar de antropologia rousseauísta. O conhecimento sobre o homem não é obtido ao olhar para o lado e tomar como referência um tipo qualquer imediatamente disponível. Ao contrário, é preciso de viagens bem regradas, de uma educação do olhar e da organização dos (...) dados colhidos pela observação. (shrink)

O artigo pretende investigar o papel fundamental da violência na genealogia dasinstituições sociais e suas conseqüências, visando refletir sobre problemas cardeais dafilosofia política contemporânea, como por exemplo, a fundação e a justificação do poderde comando, contrato social, estado democrático de direito, controle constitucional, estadode exceção e a possibilidade de compreensão de políticas que não se referem ao Estado.
